Who's a pretty boy - NOT !!!
It's that time of year again, and for the next few weeks, when birds start to loose their feathers. Every year the old worn out feathers drop out and they grow their new ones which will keep them warm, and keep the wet out for the next twelve months. If you have to loose your feathers now is an ideal time, when it is nice and warm (hot)
The male pheasants can usually be seen strutting around the pen showing off their beautiful colours, the last week or so they have been skulking about the back of the pen almost embarrassed to be seen, and you can see why. The Peacocks have been a big hit this year with their displays but not any longer, even the Reeves Pheasant has lost his long 1.5 mt tail.
In the pictures you can see the new quills (feathers) developing on their necks.
Another week or two and they will be back to their splendid selves.

On Sunday some of our visitors were treated to a nice surprise when one of the Fallow Deer hinds (Mum) had her fawn (Baby) just before mid-day. I had better add the Buck (Dad) was very proud.
A second fawn was born on Monday night and i managed to get a picture this morning, you can see how well they are camouflaged in the grass.
Camouflage is being able to see, but hopefully not be seen.

Another of our visitors favorite deer the Sika deer had a baby last week, which is starting to make appearances.
Mum is a Hind
Dad is a Stag
Baby is a calf
Confusing isn't it !!!!!

If you come to visit us, keep looking in the long grass along the fence line by the Go Karts and the Dexter cows.
